The Firecracker 4 Race Committee proudly announces the 6th Firecracker 4 Road Race. This annual 4 mile race begins and ends at the Saratoga Spring City Center. Participants line up on Broadway and fill the street as they run the entire length of the downtown area and onward through historic streets of Saratoga Springs.
Race Directors Peter Goutos and Bob Vanderminden have added several new features for the 2012 event. These include:
• Monetary prizes to the top race Individual and Team finishers.
• Host of the first annual USATF Adirondack Club Team Championship Race.
• Military and Public Safety (Police/Fire/EMS) Team Competitions.
• Scholastic Team Competition (Open to High School and College Runners).
Last year the Firecracker 4 hosted 2700 runners. The race committee expects upward of 3500 runners this year. All runners are guaranteed a dry fit Firecracker runner shirt.
But this is not just a race – it is a grand summer event! Runners and their families are treated to the Freedom Hawk Band at the start/finish. Another 14 bands and musicians line the race course. A Vendor Village filled with local businesses, food, masseuses and displays are set up along Ellsworth Jones Way and the Algonquin Parking Lot. Through the generosity of Saratoga Springs Public Safety runners finish their race under the giant American Flag hoisted by two Fire Department aerial ladder trucks.
This year many businesses are “RUNNING In COLORS”. All business and organizations are encouraged to don same color shirts and compete for bragging rights. The company with the most participants will be photographed and recognized in the Saratogian and on the Firecracker website (for the entire year!!!!).
We encourage all runners to join us on Wednesday July 4th for the 9 a.m. start. Registration is open, see http://www.firecracker4.com. On line registration for $20.00 closes midnight July 2, 2012. Registration there after is $30.00 and is accepted at day before registration, 4 to 8 p.m. on July 3, 2012 and day of beginning at 7 a.m. at the Saratoga Spring City Center.
The Firecracker4 provides an impressive start to Saratoga Spring’s All-American Celebration which last year included a grand parade directly after the race, barbeque and desert festival/contest, classic car show, live music, city tours, face painting and fireworks at dusk.
The Firecracker 4 race is managed and run by FC4, Inc., a 501(c) (3) Not for Profit organization committed to supporting healthy lifestyle choices. Event profits will be donated to local not for profit organizations that embody these principles. For 2012 the Saratoga Springs High School track/field and cross running programs, YMCA and Saratoga Springs Greenbelt Trail Project have been selected as recipients.
