The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce announces a trip to the United Arab Emirates in September of 2012. The trip will take place on September 18 – 26, 2012. The trip will be a combination of touring cultural sites, learning about urban and economic development in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and learning and experiencing firsthand the strong business connections our county has with this economic powerhouse Country. One of the strategic plan items for the Saratoga County Chamber is to assist with the growth of the county as a global destination and to aide in educating the business and community leaders of this reality by creating yearly trips to countries that have a major impact on the global marketplace. This year’s trip has several specific ties to our communities.

The cost of the 8 day trip includes; roundtrip shuttle to JFK International airport, roundtrip international airfare from JFK, 4 star hotel accommodations, some meals each day, deluxe tour bus, fluent English speaking tour guide, all taxes, tips and attraction fees. Valid passports are required. Cost for members of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce is $2590, non Chamber members are $2890. These prices are for double occupancy. Single occupancy is available for a surcharge of $680. Optional tours are also available at an additional cost.

Saratoga County has numerous important and interesting connections to this part of the world. Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (Sheik Mohammed), the Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and constitutional monarch of Dubai, is the owner of two horse farms in Saratoga Springs. His close associate, Abdulla Al Habbai, is the owner of the famous Fasig-Tipton Horse Auction. As they are both extremely involved in the Thoroughbred industry, they are people that spend time in our area.

Non-horse related connections include GLOBALFOUNDRIES. They are owned by parent company ATIC, headquartered in Abu Dhabi and wholly owned by the government of Abu Dhabi. The Saratoga County Chamber, working in conjunction with local and abroad members of GlobalFoundries and ATIC, are creating some special events for the travelers on our trip. A private reception will be held after arriving in Abu Dhabi at the wafer shaped headquarters of ATIC with ATIC business leaders and area dignitaries. While in Dubai, plans are being solidified to take a behind the scenes tour of Meydan Racecourse, the world’s premiere Racecourse completed in 2010 and home of the famous Dubai World Cup. These special events are in addition to the itinerary of the trip.

“In today’s global economy, the unique cultural and business connections between the UAE and the United States are significant to both our nation’s economy and to our local economy here in the Capital Region,” said Travis Bullard, senior manager of Public Affairs and Communications, GLOBALFOUNDRIES. “GLOBALFOUNDRIES and our ownership group at ATIC are excited to be working with the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce on this important opportunity to expand cultural understanding and explore business growth opportunities and we’re looking forward to hosting a special welcome reception for the delegation in the UAE.”
