Leadership Saratoga Seminar – How to Recruit and Develop a Successful and Effective Board

A seminar on how to recruit and develop a successful and effective board of directors, is being sponsored by the Saratoga County Chamber’s Leadership Saratoga Alumni Association.

The seminar will be held Tuesday, March 6 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Saratoga Springs Holiday Inn.  A full breakfast will be provided.  Cost is $25 per person if reserved by February 28, and $30 if reserved after that date.  Reservations with advance payment are necessary and may be made by sending a check payable to Leadership Alumni Assn., to the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, 28 Clinton Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or by going online to www.leadershipsaratoga.org.  Then click on Alumni and then Events.

Doug Sauer, President of the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) will be the seminar facilitator.  He will share tips on how board and staff of nonprofits can identify, engage and improve the effectiveness of new and current board members.

Sauer is also the current Treasurer, and immediate past chair of the National Council of Nonprofits, the nation’s largest network of nonprofits representing over 20,000 nonprofits who are affiliated with 40 state associations.  NYCON is a statewide association of over 1,900 nonprofits.

He is currently President of the Board of Directors of Council Services Plus, a for-profit insurance brokerage firm.  Past board service includes President and Treasurer of the National Association of Planning Councils; Governance Matters; the Center for Women in Government at Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy; the Albany Community Development Credit Union; the Grafton Free Library; and Berlin Central School District.  Sauer also served as a gubernatorial appointee on the NYS National Commission on Community Service.
