Saratoga Springs, NY—Saratoga Springs Mayor Scott T. Johnson and members of the Saratoga Springs City Council announced that the Saratoga Springs History Museum was recognized for excellence in the 2010 MuseumWise Award of Merit competition.
In a formal presentation made at the MuseumWise/Museum Association of New York annual meeting, held April 3-5 in Buffalo, competition officials acknowledged the museum’s 2010 program of work as being exemplary among museums statewide.
According to competition officials, “In 2010 Saratoga Springs History Museum’s staff and board achieved standards of performance virtually unparalleled for a small museum. They doubled membership, tripled the annual appeal and tripled attendance at programs.
“Through their strategic vision and implementation, this group dramatically increased membership, annual fund, corporate giving and average attendance for each of their monthly programs. This re-shaping of the museum’s culture will ensure the effectiveness of the organization now and for decades to come,” city officials said.
“This is wonderful recognition for our history museum,” stated Mayor Johnson. “Through the staff and Board’s unique programming, creativity, and tireless commitment to telling Saratoga’s story, residents and visitors to the Spa City are able to gain deeper insight into how Saratoga’s heritage fits with that of the state and nation. I commend all involved with this wonderful institution for all that they have done which resulted in this unprecedented honor,” he concluded.
